How can CCI innovation ecosystems be fostered in non-urban areas? — This is the focus of IN SITU Webinar #2 on Monday, October 30, 2023, 14h30-16h30 CET.
Hosted by Carolina Castaldi (Utrecht University — IN SITU Consortium partner), the webinar will include presentations and discussions of insights arising from the projects RURITAGE: Heritage for Rural Regeneration; FLIARA: Female-Led Innovation in Agriculture and Rural Areas; IN SITU: Place-based Innovation of Cultural and Creative Industries in Non-urban Areas; research conducted in the United States by Tim Wojan (National Science Foundation); and lessons from the EMES Network on fostering social innovation and social enterprise.

Over the next four months, the IN SITU project will present three webinars to address key themes that support the work of cultural and creative ecosystems in European non-urban areas. Together with cultural and creative organisations and initiatives, EU research projects, as well as IN SITU partners and advisors to learn from their insight and experiences, to discuss common challenges.
IN SITU ‘Case studies’ report submitted to European Commission
IN SITU has delivered its latest research, a report presenting 12 creative, place-responsive case studies that become part of the IN SITU project. Identified by the IN SITU Labs through a multi-stage participatory process, the case studies are located in six non-urban regions in Azores (Portugal), Ireland, Iceland, Finland, Latvia, and Croatia – two case studies in each IN SITU Lab location.
Twelve projects identified as IN SITU case studies
A total of twelve case studies will be involved in a participatory monitoring process, as well as training and mentoring programme, with the objective of studying creative responses to key local issues and the generated transformative effects at local level, as well as strengthening internal capacity.
IN SITU partners meet in Rauma, Finland, one of the six IN SITU Lab regions
From May 31 to June 1, 2023 the IN SITU Consortium of partners came together in Rauma, Finland. This in-presence working meeting, themed “Mapping and Diagnoses,” was hosted by the University of Turku team of researchers
New study reveals hidden contributions of cultural and creative workers to regional innovation in non-urban European regions
Over the course of the last ten months the IN SITU research team from the Utrecht University – led by Prof. Carolina Castaldi, has carried out research on the role of creative and cultural workers for contribute to innovation and regional development in non-urban regions across Europe.
