Small Places, Big Impact: IN SITU releases educational videos inspired by four years of research in non-urban areas

The Horizon Europe-funded project IN SITU: Place-based innovation of culture and creative industries in non-urban areas has recently released a video series focused on capacity building topics for cultural and creative practitioners in non-urban areas.

Produced by the Bulgarian IN SITU partner National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFIZ), the series consists of four short videos that integrate the project’s capacity-building activities and aim to support cultural and creative practitioners, intermediaries, educators, and cultural leaders working in non-urban areas across Europe. Drawing on four years of research, training, mentoring, and collaboration in six European regions, the videos provide practical insights into building sustainable cultural initiatives, developing partnerships, diversifying income sources, and strengthening community engagement.

The video series includes:

🎬 Small Places, Big Dreams – Funding and diversifying revenues for creatives in non-urban areas:  https://youtu.be/b6jDpX3ah2E

🎬 Connect, Collaborate, Create – Tips for strategic cooperation and networking in non-urban areas: https://youtu.be/yqsOnK1CzWA

🎬 Small Places, Big Impact – Creative social entrepreneurship and sustainable business models in non-urban areas: https://youtu.be/JtP2XHxxV34

🎬 Storytelling for Success – A powerful tool for creatives in non-urban areas: https://youtu.be/oN7jf-hsHRk

The report Four short videos on topics of capacity building for CCIs in non-urban areas, also developed by NATFIZ, complements the videos. The publication outlines the conceptual framework, educational objectives, target groups, learning outcomes, and production process behind the video series, offering additional guidance for educators, trainers, cultural organisations, and policymakers interested in strengthening the capacities of cultural and creative sectors beyond urban centres.

The videos and accompanying report combine research findings, practical examples, and expert guidance to help cultural and creative actors navigate the challenges and opportunities of working beyond major urban centres. Together, they represent an important educational legacy of the IN SITU project and contribute to the long-term development of resilient, innovative, and socially engaged cultural ecosystems across non-urban Europe.

We invite cultural practitioners, students, researchers, policymakers, creative organisations, and educators to explore the videos and the report, use them in their professional and educational activities, share them within their networks, and join the growing conversation about the future of culture in Europe’s small places.

Small places can generate big dreams, big impact, meaningful collaborations, and inspiring stories. These resources show how.
