Four years of the EU-funded IN SITU project are wrapping up, so it is now time to reflect on the value that was generated for the cultural sector operating in rural areas across Europe, as well as its legacy for the future.
Within the broader economic and social system, cultural and creative industries (CCIs) are finally regaining centrality as meaningful contributors to society, thanks in part to IN SITU’s effort to provide alternative perspectives challenging common preconceived ideas about the role of culture in rural environments.
As the final phase of the EU-funded IN SITU project approaches, it is time to reflect on the major takeaways of this experience and on the valuable impact that a place-based approach meant for the development of cultural and creative activities in rural areas.
The European research project IN SITU has recently released an educational video series focused on capacity building for cultural and creative practitioners in non-urban areas.
Held in Valmiera from 11 to 13 May, the international conference Culture Matters Here marked the conclusion of the IN SITU project, bringing together participants from 28 countries to explore how culture and creativity drive innovation and resilience in non-urban communities.
Next week, an international conference in Valmiera, Latvia, will bring together 130 experts from 28 countries to examine how culture and creativity can drive innovation, resilience, and sustainable development in non-urban regions. All main conference sessions will be livestreamed.
